Dr. Carleton Hsia, Chairman of the
Board Dr. Hsia, a former professor of
pharmacology and biochemistry at the University of Toronto,
is a pioneer in the blood substitute field. He co-founded and until1992
served as Vice President of Research and Development for Hemosol, a public
Canadian biotechnology company that developed blood substitutes based on
Dr. Hsia's inventions. Dr. Hsia, whose inventions are patented worldwide,
founded SynZyme Technologies Inc. in 1992 and SynZyme Technologies LLC in
1998 and has served as the Company's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
since then. He is the principal investigator on numerous peer-reviewed NIH
SBIR grants and DOD contracts totaling over $11 million. He has also raised
over $5 million in private funding for SynZyme in the
past. Dr. Hsia earned his Ph.D. at the University of Hawaii
in 1968, with a dissertation on the use of nitroxide spin labels in the
study of the ligand-binding behavior of immunoglobulin and its relationship
to the immune response. He has more than 70 peer-reviewed
publications and 14 issued patents on CNO technology only.
Mr. Robert Patterson Robert E. Patterson has 31 years of experience providing legal
counsel to high tech business clients. He advises clients on a variety of
matters including startup issues and the formation of new businesses predicated
on technology. He was named as one of Silicon Valle’s top corporate lawyers
in May 2003 by San Jose Magazine. Mr. Patterson works closely with venture
capital investors in investment and operation activities. He has assisted
non-US corporations in their formation, acquisition and operation of US
companies. He serves as a director of several biotechnology-based
corporations. He has been a director and member of the investment committee
of an international venture capital fund since 1983 and, in that regard,
has negotiated numerous venture capital investments both as a lawyer and,
on occasion, an investor. He is a founding partner of a technology-focused
SBIC venture fund. Mr. Patterson received his J.D. from Stanford University
in 1972 and is admitted to practice in California.
Dr. Charles E. Hutchison, Dr. Hutchinson is Chief Executive Officer and Executive
Chairman of the Board of Directors of GlycoFi, a company he co-founded in
the spring of 2000. Previous to GlycoFi, he has served as John H. Krehbiel
Sr. Professor of Emerging Technologies, Director, M.E.M. Program, and Dean
of the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College.
Dr. Hutchinson was a co-founder of Medical Media Systems, Inc., and
Dilon Technologies. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of
Hypertherm, MicroChips Inc. and Markem and Media Systems and is a
consultant to Baxter Healthcare and Tally Systems. Dr. Hutchinson
received a Ph.D. from Stanford, an M.S.E.E. from Stanford and a B.S.E.E.
from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Mr. Derek Wang Mr. Wang is the Chairman and President of China Pharmaceutical and Chemical Company, Taiwan's
largest drug manufacturer. A graduate of California
State University,
San Francisco,
and the Yale School of Management, Mr. Wang, who worked as an administrator
at Alza Pharmaceuticals, is a former manager, assistant vice president, and
vice-president of CCPC. He is currently President of the Dr. Wang Ming-Ning
Memorial Foundation.
Mr. Seiki Murono Mr. Murono was Senior Vice President of the Chase Manhattan
Bank, N.A. and President of the Chase Manhattan Trust Company of California before
taking early retirement in 1995. He is currently Chairman of the Board of
the Millennium Bank headquartered in San
Francisco. Mr. Murono received a BA degree from Franklin and Marshall
College and an MBA from the American University.
